“There reaches a point though that human beings are simply not capable of understanding the sheer horror of what is going on elsewhere in the world. Joseph Stalin said it best when he said, ” One death is a tragedy, a million is a statistic.” We cannot simply fathom that many human beings at one time. It is why many people are more upset when a dog dies in a movie versus say hundreds of characters. Because we naturally empathize with individuals better than groups.”
